from stone to world domination

<!--break-->   Who were the first people to use money?  quite a simple question would you think, well if you go to wiki you will see that there is a very useless explanation about the history of money, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money.    Lets ask another question, what trade was responsible for the production of  the first coins?     Better yet, what allowed humans to move from the Stone Age; Neolithic period to the Iron Age? Funny but this is one of the...

Putting the nail in the coffin

Putting the nail in the coffin. Getting to the point these days seems to be a lost cause. Being involved in active groups seems to be more of a social call. Where did the activists go? First, thank you for taking time to read this, whom has time to read blogs today, never mind writing them. The system is out of date and needs to be thrown away once and for all! The source of our issues in society is being debated to death, with no end in sight. Does 99% on Wall Street ring a bell? What...

Gun registry debate showcases Canada's democratic deficit

Cross-posted from Catch 22 Harper Conservatives I grew up in a big Canadian city. There was no need for guns. Only the police had guns. There was even talk about adopting the approach used by London England's Bobbies (police), most of whom didn't carry guns. As a child and a teen, I never knew anyone who got shot, nor did I know anyone who went hunting or even owned a gun. I associated guns with gangsters, western movies and wars. Like many of my generation, peace was viewed as a...

Harper backs down on long form census

Memo from: Statistics Canada To: All Canadians Subject: Mandatory long form census Due to mounting partisan pressure from peeping toms who want to know your favorite sex position, whether you pee sitting or standing and how many chai lattes you drink every week, our great leader PM Stephen Harper has agreed to reinstate the mandatory long form census. All households that receive the new long form, are now required to follow the instructions and complete the survey. We apologize for...

Pleased to be here...

Great to join this site. I hope it's able to achieve the objectives set out. My focus these days is mostly on the next federal election. I am working with a number of people on a campaign called Catch 22 Harper Conservatives - a campaign to defeat as many incumbent conservatives as possible in the next federal election. We're also on Facebook. We've started off with a list of about 30 swing ridings across the country.  If Canada had a fair voting system where each Canadian had an equal...

Effective Supporter Communication

While there are perhaps thousands of ways to communicate to your supporters, ask for volunteers, or write a fundraising letter, one of the most tried and true formulas is known as the Munroe Motivating Sequence.   Developed in the 1930s by a fellow named James Munroe who was a professor of psychology at Purdue University, the Munroe Motivating Sequence is a 5 step formula that has become the basic for any basic public speaking class and can be used in any activity or communication meant to...

Making Media Public

If this public fund were to be liberated from the pockets of the cable monopolies, we would have independent community media centres across the country. These centres could act as incubators for job creation, empowerment and skills-based learning, and media innovation.   The empowerment aspect of this argument is the most compelling part of the May 9th event. As any good community mobilizer knows, a “bigger than us” portrayal of today’s pressing issues has a...

Parliament had options.

Peter Milliken, the Speaker of the House of Commons, was asked to make a ruling on redacted documents related to the Canadian mission in Afghanistan and detainee transfers.   In one of the most rational 45 minutes delivered in the House of Commons in years, he ruled that Parliament was supreme in having access to any portion of the government to hold it to account, while acknowledging that Parliament should use that power with great reserve.   In the question of the documents related...
